Revd. Canon Stanley Owen, 1917-2010

The funeral service for the late Revd. Canon Stanley Owen, Rector of Bickenhill with Elmdon from 1960 to 1986, will be held at St. Nicholas Church, Elmdon on Friday 19th February 2010 at 2 p.m.

Weather Update

The road in Elmdon Park (“Church Lane”) is extremely icy, and access to the car park adjacent to St. Nicholas church (maintained by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, not the church) is very difficult. Nevertheless there will be a service of Holy Communion tomorrow, Sunday 10th January, at 10.30 a.m., as well as Morning Worship at Valley Church Centre at 9.30 a.m.

Please take great care as none of the roads leading to any of our centres of worship have been gritted.

Discipleship Explored

This eight-week course – featuring Bible studies, talks and group discussions – explores Paul’s letter to the Philippians and its call to live wholeheartedly for Christ.

The course is open to all who are interested in exploring Christian Discipleship.

Sessions are held on Tuesday evenings, starting at 7.30 pm and finishing at 9.30 pm and will be held in the Wilberforce Hall at St. Nicholas Church.

Tea, coffee, cuppa soup and biscuits will be served. All proceeds will go to the Church Mission Society.

Come and join us and spend some time in this lovely old church. There will also be a service of Holy Communion at 4pm if you wish to stay.

Sunday Teas will recommence in May 2010.

Cycle Races, Sunday 18th October

Solihull Cycling Club will be holding their annual cyclo cross races in Elmdon Park on Sunday 18th October.  In previous years this has caused some problems with parking for the 10.30 a.m. service at St. Nicholas. It would be a good idea to share lifts, if possible, in order to reduce the demand on parking space.

Exploring Christianity

We are starting a Y Course on Tuesday evenings, in the Wilberforce Hall at St. Nicholas Church beginning on 9th June 2009 through to 28th July.

The Y Course is a DVD based course of eight sessions aiming to explore the basics of the Christian faith. It is also a good “refresher” course.

Tea and coffee from 7.30pm onwards to enable a prompt start at 8pm and prompt finish at 9.30pm.

Please contact us for more information.
